Managing modules

Module iconModules provide your site with extra pieces of functionality.

To work a module needs to

  • be present in your site. If it is not, send an email to support@synergynewmedia.co.uk
  • be installed in your site
  • have permissions configured
  • have the appropriate settings

Step 1. Installing a module. Go to Administer>Modules. This will bring up a list of all the available modules in your site. Select the checkbox against the module you want to install, then go to the bottom of the page and click the 'Save Configuration' button. This will install your module.

The site will return you to the Administer>modules page.

Step 2. Configure permissions. Some modules require permissions, some don't. Click the 'Administration by module page' link. You find this at the end of the introductory text at the top of the Administer>modules page.

Scroll down to the module you wish to use and if it has a 'Configure Permissions' link, click it.

This takes you to the Access Controls page for the site. You can assign permissons to each role you have created on the site. For example if you have a role called Administrators, you will probably want them to have all permissions available. If you have authenticated users you may wish to restrict their permissions so they cannot administer anything.

Once you are satisfied with the permissions you have given, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the 'Save permissions' button.

Step 3. Apply setting for the module. Some modules require setting in order to make them work, others don't. Click the 'Administration by module page' link. You find this at the end of the introductory text at the top of the Administer>modules page.

Scroll down to the module you wish to use and if it has a link with the same name as the module, click it.

This will take you to the settings page for the module.

The settings you apply affect the way the module and as each module is different, you may need some help with this. If in any doubt as to what to do, leave the settings as you find them, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the 'Save configuration' button.
